The Ones WHO Want You to Drive Safe and Buckle Up
"Our YOVASO group decided to take matters into their own hands and use the classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" movie to tie the underlying theme- driver safety and buckling up- int0 the Christmas parade! The annual Bedford Christmas parade was held on Saturday, December 2, 2017. Members affiliated with YOVASO got a chance to contribute ideas, themes, and hard work towards the float; several middle school YOVASO members even came to help out on the big parade day as well!"

Liberty High School's Graduating Class of 2017
"It gives me so much joy to know that I am apart of something huge. In this club we get to impact peoples lives whether it be in the smallest way possible or tremendously. We get to make our community a safer place. Being President of YOVASO this year has taught me about initiative, responsibility, and teamwork. I have been able to experience things that I never have before. I got to stand in front of my peers from Stanton River and Jefferson Forest with my team while we were presented with a $200 check. I watched as over 100 students participated in our Club Days this school year, making us the largest club on campus. I got to be on the news where I told all of Bedford County who we are and what we stand for. I got to participate in Liberty High School's first ever Battle of the Belts competition where we had faculty, administrators, and students compete. The most important thing I gained from being the President is friends and experiences I will take with me long after I leave high school. YOVASO is probably one of the best things to happen to me. I encourage everyone to join and be a part of something BIG!"

Liberty High School Dodgeball Tournament
"We're in the dodgeball tournament to have fun and to get the LHS YOVASO name out there. We like to participate in all activities on and off campus. We need people to know who we are and what we stand for. Getting our YOVASO club involved in everything, especially on campus, will help spread our mission."

Jumpstarting the Bedford Middle School Program
"We are planning a visit to Bedford Middle School on Friday, March 10th! We are going in hopes to jump start their YOVASO chapter. It is very important that we reach out to them considering they are the passengers of our community. The BMS students have a different message than us since they are not of age to drive yet. It is our job to make sure that they stay safe, make sure their drivers are safe, and prepare them for when it's time to get behind the wheel."

Liberty High School Club Day 2
"On our second Club Day students were introduced to the Arrive Alive Campaign. The officers introduced each part of the campaign to the general membership and then lead the students in breakout sessions. Most students worked on poster ideas and production, while others brainstormed skit ideas and began working on a script. Officers met in a separate meeting concurrently to block out ideas for the campaign. All in all it was a productive day for LHS YOVASO."

Bedford County YOVASO 101 Training Day
"At our YOVASO Training this fall we had a lot of fun! We went to learn more ways to spread our message to our peers. At the training, we met with students from other schools in our county and discussed ways to encourage each other to be safe on the roads. We also heard from a few speakers who told us their stories of teen driving accidents. It was a very productive and fun experience for everyone in YOVASO!"

2016 Bedford Christmas Parade
"The Christmas Parade was a great moment to spread the word about traffic safety for YOVASO. We spent a lot of time working on our float and making everything look perfect. It was a lot of fun learning new skills with all of my YOVASO friends. I even learned how to use a nail gun and tape measure thanks to Ms. Lundgren! During the Parade, me and two other girls wore cardboard cars labeled, "Student Driver," and walked in front of Officer Clark's truck and pretended to drive. I think the people in the crowd really enjoyed that. I think the Town of Bedford realized that Liberty High School has a great program promoting traffic safety and keeping teenagers safe."

37th Annual Peaks of Otter Christmas Classic 5K
"YOVASO did this to bring attention to our program. About half way through the 5K I didn't want to continue running, but I needed to cross the line so the people watching could see my shirt. This was a great race for LHS YOVASO to be in because people from all came and raced, and when they saw us they might have looked us up to see what we stand for. They might have told their friends and our message would have gotten out. I would do this race again because it was an amazing experience that I want to have every year for the next three years, I saw a few other YOVASO members while I was running, so it was cool seeing other people doing the same thing as me. It was a huge turnout and I think we should be involved in races like this every year to bring attention to our program."

Liberty High School Turkey Trot
"This 5K was one of the first appearances LHS YOVASO made a as revamped program. The 5K was a great start to spreading our message. The Turkey Trot was intense, the hills almost looked never ending. I had a rough time at the beginning, but thankfully I had my YOVASO friends to push me through. We stood strong and carried on, it was a sight to see. I can tell you first hand that when you sign up for YOVASO, you're not just signing up for an amazing program, you're signing up to be a part of a family. Even though YOVASO wasn't the first to cross the finish line, we were all standing strong together to spread what we see is most important."

Save Your Tailgate Campaign
"We participated in the Save Your Tailgate Campaign because we wanted to get our campus involved, especially during football season. We wanted to spread the word about what Save Your Tailgate means, to keep our peers safe, and how important our YOVASO club is at our school. We had a tailgate party in the rain and we will had members of our club show up and make the most of it. We also did an "egg race" as part of our campaign that earned us second place in the state for the 2016 Save Your Tailgate Campaign."
